ECKLEBURG 2004-09-26 - 6:28 p.m. So I have been supper excited to go see SkyCaptain, mainly cause it was set in the 30's. And the movie previews looked good. So on Friday night Grumblecake and myself went to go see it -- which is rare because I am cheap and lazy and usually prefer to rent movies or watch Tivo or DVD's from Netflix. But for SkyCaptain we made an exception. Boy are we sorry! First, I just never got all that fond of SkyCaptain. My Advice to whoever wrote the movie is to not make the protagonist a shallow lying chaeting hack with little demonstable skill and bad choice in woman. Second. I HATED the "Love Interest." played by Gwenyth Paltrow. I found myself rooting for her to die by the end -- and as you know, I am a fun, peace-loving, guy who wouldn't wish death upon anybody. That's how horrible she is. My Advice to whoever wrote the movie is to not make the love interest a whiny, manipulating, cranky, selfish, conniving, lying, backstabbing, ignorant, helpless wretch.
Finally, the plot . . . no I can't say anything about the plot because there isn't one. Not only that, but there are serious logical flaws in most of the attempts at plots -- you keep getting distracted by having to ask: "but if that happened, wouldn't this and that and this also have happened, and how could that be the case based on this other thing that just happened, etc" The one reddeeming quality of the movie: Angelina Jolie wears an eyepatch just like a pirate! Bad SkyCaptain Bad
