Have you ever been just a little intimidated when you go to an expensive haircut place? When you go to supercuts, you feel very empowered to tell the lady cut your hair (and they are almost ALWAYS women, I have notcied). You do this because you feel like if they were good enough for you to not have to tell them exactly how you want your hair cut, they wouldn't be working at supercuts, right?
But the same logic doesn't hold true whenyou go to a snooty place. They are supposed to know how to do hair really well, just look at the snooty haircut place they work at! So you go in and give them a good idea about what you want, but not quite as specific as what you give to the supercuts lady, that way snooty haircut person (guys AND gals work at these places)have a little more room to "play" and "manuever" and do things to your hair you would never dream because you haven't dedicated your life to haircutting like snooty haircutter has.
But then snooty haircutter doesn't do what you want and you think they suck and you wish you could just tell them exactly what you want like you do at supercuts, and then you think that if you have to spell it out exactly to all haircutter people anyway, why not just get your haircut from supercuts to begin with since it is so much cheaper, and besides you like the potential of talking to people with foreign accents because it makes you feel all global.
